Sensex up 128 points; consumer durables stocks hog the limelight Today on, 22 May 2014

    • The 30-share BSE index Sensex was trading at 24,425.86, up 127.84 points and the 50-share NSE index Nifty was trading at 7,281.10, up 28.2 points. 

    • Barring IT and TECk, all other BSE sectoral indices were trading in the green. Among them, consumer durables and realty indices were the star-performers and were up 6.44 per cent and 2.24 per cent, respectively, followed by metal 1.99 per cent and auto 1.55 per cent. On the other hand, TECk index was down 0.21 per cent and IT 0.15 per cent. 

    • Maruti, Coal India, NTPC, Bajaj Auto and Tata Steel were the top five Sensex gainers, while the top five losers were Hindalco, HDFC Bank, Infosys, Bharti Airtel and HDFC. 

       
    • Jewellery stocks were back in demand after the Reserve Bank had yesterday eased gold import norms by allowing select trading houses, in addition to already permitted banks, to procure the precious metal to boost exports. 

    • Stocks of Titan Company climbed up by 10.40 per cent to Rs 342.40, P C Jewellers rose 15.93 per cent to Rs 120.10 and Gitanjali Gems surged 14.17 per cent to Rs 104.35.
